How to turn a photo into a video with AI

To turn a photo into a video with AI, upload the photo to an image-to-video model, describe the motion you want in one or two sentences, pick the length and resolution, and generate. Photo into a video is the default mode of the studio: up to 9 photos, 5 models, and the price on the button before you press it; the default request costs 331 credits (Seedance 2.5, 720p, 5 s). Most clips are ready in 4 to 6 minutes.

Why we ask

Putting a real person into a video without their OK can break privacy and image-rights laws, and that responsibility is yours. We keep the time you confirmed with the request.

Turn a photo into a video in five steps

  1. 1

Choose one sharp photo with a clear subject. Crop out what should not move in the photo.

  2. 2

Open the studio in "Image to video" mode and upload the photo you want to turn into a video.

  3. 3

Write what happens next, not what is already in the picture: "she turns to the camera and laughs, hair moving in the wind, slow push-in".

  4. 4

Pick a model and settings. Seedance 2.5, Seedance 2.0, Kling 3.0, Wan 3.0 or MiniMax H3; the button shows the credits for each choice.

  5. 5

Create, watch the result in the studio, then download the MP4 or change one thing and try again.

Which photo turns into a good video

  • A sharp, well lit photo, with the face or object large in the frame
  • One clear subject, or a few people who are easy to tell apart
  • Space around the subject if you want the camera to move
  • The ratio you want out: a vertical photo for a 9:16 clip, a wide one for 16:9
  • Photos you own, or of people who agreed. No children, no public figures without consent

Write the motion, not the photo

When you turn a photo into a video, the model already sees the photo. Words that describe the photo again ("a woman in a red dress in a park") add little. Words about change do the work: who moves, how, how fast, where the camera goes and what we hear.

A simple pattern: subject + action + camera + mood + sound. For example: "The dog jumps off the sofa and runs to the door, the camera follows at floor height, bright morning light, paws on wooden floor." The prompt guide has more.

Fix the usual photo into a video problems

  • The face changes: use a sharper, front-facing photo, keep the motion small, and say "keeps the same face" in the prompt.
  • Nothing moves: name a clear action and a camera move; "subtle movement" is often read as almost none.
  • Too much moves: describe one action only and add "the background stays still".
  • Hands or text look wrong: frame them out, or keep them still in the prompt.
  • Wrong shape: change the ratio, or crop the photo to the ratio first.

Free and paid ways to turn a photo into a video

Many apps advertise a free photo into a video tool, usually with daily limits, watermarks or low resolution, and their terms change often. Here there is no free tier: you pay per clip with credits, from 17 credits, and a failed render is refunded. Is Capafy AI free? has the numbers.
